About Me

Hi! My name is Sydney Myers. I am a VFX artist and a motion graphic designer. I am currently a Junior UI / UX developer at Filament Games in Madison, Wisconsin. At Filament I am part of a team that uses Unity to create educational and beneficial games that help improve lives. I studied media arts and game development at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a minor in computer science. In the past, I worked as a marketing video assistant at my university where I primarily worked on motion graphics for our social medias.

Visual Effects

While studying at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, I had a unique opportunity with my major.

I was able to branch off my studies into many different areas of both media, as well as game development. This allowed me to become very well rounded when it came to my artistic knowledge. One of the areas I dove heavily into was VFX both in games and in video. This particular VFX is one I created as a fire breath attack for a dragon in a game I worked on called End of the Party. I am very proud of this effect simply because I made it completely customizable without having to go into the back end of the effect, which was extremely helpful for my team members who are not as knowledgeable in this particular area of game development.

Motion Graphics

My main focus of study at university was on video production and motion graphics. During my time there I took many classes on graphic design and motion design. I also eld a job position for my last year creating videos and motion graphics as a Video Assistant in the University Center. My work was often posted onto the University Center's social media or added to their website. During my time at this job, I put my best effort into learning new techniques and styles and I pushed myself to make sure that the content I put out was the very best it could have been. This particular video was a practice into motion branding, I pulled a logo from one of my favorite bands, Sleeping With Sirens, and tried to show it off in three different ways while also tying it to one of their popular songs.

Game Development

In college, I did not take many, if any classes, that focused mainly on game development. The classes in programming that I took focused on Java development or visual-based coding.  However, I still focused a lot of my free time on making games with my friends in a club called Gamed. Three times a year the club would host a 48-hour game jam where we would have from 5 PM on Friday to 5 PM on Sunday to make a game from start to finish. Often after the jam finished we would go back and fix some bugs and make the game the best it could be. These game jams we were highly encouraged to use the Unity game engine which required C# as its programming language. I often heavily focused on the art of the games, but over the years I learned the in's and out's of the entire game Engine.
